- Johan Ghoos: "The first thing you need to do is thoroughly examine the business processes."
Johan Ghoos has been working at Mensura for over 25 years. He combines his position as occupational health physician with a part-time sports medicine practice. In addition, he is a member of Flanders’ disciplinary council for medically justified sports practice, and he works as a physician/judge at the official Flemish anti-doping agency for elite athletes.
“After completing my studies, I combined a part-time private practice with the medical supervision of athletes and with scientific work at the department of sports medicine at the University of Leuven. During that time, I also put my name down for additional training in occupational medicine. And here I am now, still working at Mensura more than 25 years later.
To this day, I still love the variety of the work I do. I get great satisfaction from my work as an occupational health physician because I can help employees detect injuries or other issues before they turn into a major problem. A lot of harm can be prevented by implementing the right strategies.
The role of an occupational health physician is extremely varied. The first thing we need to do as we start working for a new client is thoroughly examine their business processes. This way, we can outline a custom prevention policy and correctly assess potential health issues. It’s a necessary and valuable process, because each work environment is unique.
What I also enjoy about working at Mensura is the strong organisational culture and sense of collegiality. I love that I can discuss both practical and technical matters with the other occupational health physicians constructively and with complete confidentiality. This team is truly one of a kind.”
